Current Positions and Appointments: (i) University of Lisbon, Director of the Tropical College, Senior Researcher with Habilitation/Head of Plant Stress and Biodiversity Lab, Professor of Cell Biology and Plant Biotechnology, (ii) Gorongosa National Park, Consortium BioEd, Mozambique (since 2018); Universidade Nova de Lisboa (since 2016); Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique (since 2009), Mozambique - Invited Professor; (iv) High Level Policy Dialogue EU/Africa - Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture - National Expert; (iii) Member of the Miombo Network of Southern Africa.
Previous positions: (i) Deputy NCP of Portugal at the European Initiative for Agricultural Research for Development (EIARD), the ARD European Coordination Group (ECG) and the CGIAR Consortium (2006/2012); Biosafety Working Group, in the former European Consortium for Agricultural Research in the Tropics (ECART), now Agrinatura (2007/2009); (iii) Deputy Director of Department (2006/2009) and Research Center (2006/2015).
Main area of activity: Characterization, conservation, monitoring and management of agro-forestry resources: (i) biodiversity; (ii) plant-environment interactions; (iii) ethnobotany; (iv) human development; (v) institutional and capacity building, with particular emphasis in Portugal, Brazil and Mozambique.
